Fund Run For the Hangar

Hangar Management Associate Bethany Schiller is attempting to run 300 miles during the month of May to raise funds for the Hangar Theatre! You can cheer on Bethany’s Fund Run and support the Hangar Theatre with a pledge or a non-pledge sponsorship option. Every donation supports the Hangar Theatre’s mission to produce exceptional, high quality theatre for the Ithaca community and larger Finger Lakes region, and increases Bethany’s motivation to achieve this goal.

When you make a pledge you get to select two things: the dollar amount and per every xx miles. For example, you could pledge $2 every mile ($600 if Bethany reaches her goal), $1 every 10 miles ($30 if Bethany reaches her goal), or anything in between. Click HERE to pledge your support.

Every weekend in May, Bethany will run some of her miles through the Marine Park, starting from the Hangar. You can stop by to cheer her on, share a story about the Hangar, or even join for a mile or two! Each weekend we will meet at the Hangar, warm up as a group, and then run or walk as many mile loops in the Marine Park as you wish. These runs last for 1 hour, but folks are welcome to leave early.

Week 1 (May 1–7): Total Miles = 70.3
The Fun Run got off to a chilly but sunny start Friday morning, with 8.1 miles through the Village of Trumansburg! Through the first week, Bethany averaged 10 miles a day, hitting 70 miles on Thursday, May 7. At the first Fund Run Group Run, Ilana Wallenstein and Jeremy Pletter joined Bethany for a loop through the Marine Park after wrapping up their first week of Robin Hood rehearsals.

Week 2 (May 8–14): Total Miles = 69.9
This week’s miles included running the Belle Sherman 5k, a KIDDSTUFF sponsor-themed run, and a loop through the Renwick Woods trail inspired by our production of THE PROBABLY IMPROBABLE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD (Sherwood Forest!). Staying on track to hit 300 miles by the end of May.

Week 3 (May 15–21): Total Miles = 67.7
This was the most challenging week of the Fund Run so far, fitting in miles around performances of The Probably Improbable Adventures of Robin Hood plus dealing with a mini heat wave mid-week. Miles included an Ithaca Bakery/CTB sponsor-themed run, a Marine Park loop with some dedicated Robin Hood patrons following the closing performance on Sunday, and several multi-run days.

Week 4 (May 22–28): Total Miles = 72.2
Fund Run week 4 included miles in South Hill and around Ithaca College’s campus (inspired by the many fantastic IC faculty working at the Hangar this summer), Producing Artistic Director Shirley Serotsky and Concessions Helper Duncan Serotsky-Smith joined Bethany for a loop that traced the Ithaca Festival parade loop before stopping at some local bookstores to check out their graphic novel selection, including Fun Home – the graphic novel that inspired our first Mainstage show of the season. By the end of week, Bethany is just 20 miles from the 300 mile goal.

Final 3 Days (May 29–31): Total Miles = 20.4 and counting…
By May 30, Bethany hit her goal of running 300 miles…and decided to keep going, on Sunday May 31 she run from “Hangar to Hangar” (Ithaca Airport to the Hangar Theatre) and then ran the final few miles with Hangar staff, board, and patrons in the Marine Park bringing the total to 312 miles.

We’re running towards the summer 2026 season!
