Production Fellowship

The Hangar Theatre Company is committed to aiding in the development of the next generation of theatre professionals, providing an opportunity for intensive hands-on training in a professional, repertory model experience. These programs are designed to help bridge the gap between the educational and professional worlds. Hangar Production Fellows have the opportunity to refine and grow their skills, think, collaborate, network, stretch, and most importantly – to learn by doing. Will all ideas work? Will every method be the right choice? No–but that’s not the intention. The Hangar Production Fellowship embraces the principle: You’ll never know unless you try.

Fellowship Opportunities (click the title for position description):

The number of production fellows in each department will vary based on the department. Please see the specific position descriptions for opportunities and responsibilities.

Collaborators

  • Hangar Production Fellows work closely with the respective technical department head professional staff on the creation of each summer shows’ elements.
  • Depending on the specific technical department, interaction with experienced Professional designers, Stage Managers, and Directors will occur regularly.
  • Throughout the summer, Fellows will also interact with Production Management.

Learning Objectives
The greatest value of the Hangar Production Fellow program has always been the opportunity to learn by doing.  The amount of shows and the time frame give Fellows a fast paced experience in which to hone existing skills, (hopefully) develop new ones while creating high quality theatrical elements.

With that in mind, a Hangar Production Fellow can expect to:

  • Enhance their understanding of technical plans; work with professional technicians to execute a design; have opportunities to explore new methods and processes.
  • Improve hands-on skills through practical experience.
  • Start the networking and collaboration process with other technicians with whom they will continue to create theatre throughout their careers.

The Ithaca Area

Company members who opt for housing will be housed in fully furnished rooms on a college campus in Tompkins County.

Compensation
Fellowship compensation includes a weekly stipend and housing (if needed) for the duration of the residency.
