The Wedge

innovative, provocative, experimental theatre

History

Established in 1983, The Wedge has been the proving ground for some of the most innovative and dynamic theatre artists working today.  Serving as a home for our Lab Company and led by directors selected for the Drama League Summer Program, The Wedge produces provocative, cutting edge theatre.

Over the years it has produced original productions by some of our most exciting playwrights including: Kenny Finkle, Anne Washburn, Kathryn Walat, Gregory Moss, Caridad Svich and Lauren Yee.  The Wedge has also launched the directing careers of such theatrical ground-breakers as Michael Mayer, Mark Brokaw, Lisa Peterson, Rob Jess Roth, Sam Gold, Rachel Chavkin, Kevin Moriarty, and Joe Calarco.

Where does the Wedge take place?

Performances take place at the Cherry Artspace, 102 Cherry St, Ithaca, NY on Thursday and Friday evenings throughout the summer at 6PM and 8PM.

2018 Wedge Performances:

Death Comes To Us All, Mary Agnes

 by Chris Durang

directed by Christopher Núñez

Thursday July 26 & Friday July 27, 6PM & 8PM

The sunset of a fading dynasty is beset by all manner of problems: conceit, hatred, selfishness, incest and cruelty. The wealthy Jansen-Hubbell family acknowledges the pending death of their patriarch as they assemble like vultures in their stately mansion. These deranged heirs prey on their own flesh and blood, to hilarious effect, in one of Christopher Durang’s lesser known works. This absurd deathly dark comedy will have you rolling in the aisles as the death toll rises.

Christopher Núñez is currently pursuing his MFA in Directing at Florida State University. He is an early career Director with professional experience as a Manager, Producer and Designer including Associate Company Manager on THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (dir. Hal Prince) and ROCK OF AGES (dir. Kristen Hanggi). Assistant Producer: MAGIC MIKE LIVE (dir. Channing Tatum), MAGIC REINVENTED NIGHTLY, PUPPET UP: UNCENSORED. Stage Manager: The Groundlings. He spent 10 years creating and developing with BASE Entertainment. Christopher is a passionate scholar of the history of American casino entertainment and formerly served as a Docent at the Neon Museum in Las Vegas, and is a consultant on the Broadway Center, a NYC museum currently in development. BFA in Theatre Design and Technology from FSU.
