R.J. Lavine (They/She)

R.J. Lavine (she/they) joins the Hangar after two and a half years at the Kitchen Theatre Company (Ithaca, NY), most recently serving as the Director of Development & Communications. There R.J. was responsible for a number of projects that helped usher the organization’s contributed income growth, culture, and long term vision. These included expanding the theatre’s monthly giving program, stewarding the organization to new corporate and foundation partners which more than doubled grant funding, nurturing relationships with strategic community partners, and recruiting board members to advance Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility goals. R.J. is on the board of Village at Ithaca and has served on the Ulysses/Trumansburg Joint Youth Commission and the Trumansburg Community Nursery School Board of Directors. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from American University (Washington, D.C.). R.J. was awarded an SOS grant from the Community Arts partnership of Tompkins County to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute (NYC) and is a graduate of the Actors Workshop of Ithaca. Over the last six years, she has performed in numerous stage and film projects throughout the region. Originally from Ithaca, R.J. has previously held positions at Sky Lake Camp and Retreat Center (Windsor, NY) and Ulysses Philomathic Library (Trumansburg, NY), and has more than 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector. She has lived and worked in both Seoul, South Korea and Vienna, Austria. Throughout her travels and career, her steadfast love for the transformational experience of live theatre has emerged again and again. As Managing Director of the Hangar Theatre R.J. applies her passion for this powerful artform to meaningful programming, organizational culture, and long term vision with the goal of strengthening and inspiring communities.
