Sean Jacobs grew up in Cape May County, NJ and found an artistic outlet performing in high school musicals, community theatres, and singing in choirs. Sean has fond memories of the generous student discount at Princeton’s McCarter Theatre and Broadway’s rush lottery ticket phenomenon which won him $20 front-row tickets for Rent and Avenue Q and standing back-row tickets for Book of Mormon. These shows were all equally inspiring live theatre experiences that shaped Sean’s artistic esthetic while being offered in an economically radical way. Sean is a 2003 graduate of Rider University. He performed in several theatre department productions and received private voice instruction at Westminster Choir College. During his time in Philadelphia he had the privilege of singing and studying with Alan Harler and the Mendelssohn Club and Daniel Pantano and Concert Operetta Theater. Sean also spent a summer in Long Beach Island as a singing server at the famous ShowPlace Ice Cream Parlor. More recently Sean has found opportunities in arts education abroad. In Morocco he was a K-12 music teacher at Al Akhawayn American school where he taught singing, music history, music appreciation, basic music theory and helped produce a retelling of the classic little orphan Annie. In Grenada, a southeast Caribbean island, Sean served as theatre arts teacher at St. George’s Institute and Island Montessori School where he taught theatre 101 and used puppetry, masks, improv, song, dance and folktales to help students stage devised productions. He now teaches drama classes at Ithaca Youth Bureau and is a new teacher in Hangar’s Project 4 program, which empowers 4th graders to perform a show in front of family and peers. Sean spent a memorable 2 weeks in pre-pandemic Toronto studying with a team of professional puppeteers at Puppet Mongers’ studio. He performed as a puppeteer in a giant “mojiganga” style puppet in “Armadillos (Little Armored Ones)” at Cornell University. Sean’s favorite stage performances include: Protean:  A Funny…Forum; Harry: Requiem for a Dream; Larry: Company; Herb: My Favorite Year; Boy: 7 Phone Calls to a Breakup, chorus of The Bacchae (2011 Naked Feet Production at Live Arts & Philly Fringe Festival); The Cat In The Hat: Seussical; Eric Birling: An Inspector Calls; John Thayer: Titanic (the musical). Sean worked one season in the box office of a bustling Arden Theatre. As an usher at multiple theatres and festivals over the years, Sean has gained a deep knowledge and passion for the industry of producing a successful show and running a successful theatre. Sean feels passionately about keeping live theatre funded, affordable and accessible. He welcomes the opportunity to plan for the future of the Hangar Theatre and develop new audiences for live theatre.
